Railway Hotel

 Well where to start?
Originally a timber pub built around 1905 and managed by Mr Lawrence Finch, whose daughter Sarah Alice Finch married Mr William George Kraft—now that’s a whole story on its own—but today’s memories are about the Railway Hotel, rebuilt as a two-storey brick building in 1924, that celebrated 100 years in 2024 with the current owners.
Of course, there are many memories held within those walls, but today we fast forward to the 1970s, in particular a lady named Annie Cain. On a research note, I find that Annie had a connection to the Railway Hotel in 1967.
Annie Cain was a wonderful business lady. She knew what was needed and provided that to her customers, accommodation, generous meals that filled hungry folk and cold beers for refreshment. Many will remember the meals fondly—the fish and chips and schnitzels were some of the best around, And then there were the evenings—perhaps one too many Gallianos shared among friends, laughter echoing through the rooms, and stories that were told,  Parties, weddings, meetings and get togethers, all great memories.
The staff were part of what made the place so special. Names like Noel, Kev, Carmel and Melva—just to name a few—friendly faces who welcomed locals and visitors alike, making everyone feel at home.
They are the kind of memories that stay with you, although a bit faded but happy times, how lucky we were
I welcome comments on posts they are always welcome—it helps keep the memories of Main Street Bunyip alive.Perhaps you have a story of your own to share.
Happy memories to all.#storybydaffy#picai
