16 Main Street, Bunyip
Today, it’s a place to sit and relax under an umbrella while enjoying a refreshing drink from the railway pub.
The block of land has a history that is vague to me, The brains trust thought long and hard. When the building was pulled down, a plank of timber had the name Jakobi etched into it, suggesting perhaps a builder’s name from long, long ago.
A memory of a coffee place for the youth of the town.
A great source of information was received from the McIvor family. In the 60s, it was a shoe shop called Gay and McIvor’s, with Clara Gay running the Bunyip shop and Mr McIvor running a Drouin shoe shop.
I was delighted to hear that Clara Gay’s name connected to Max and Dorothy Gay, who lived in A’Beckett Road. Dorothy often relieved as the Bunyip postmistress.

16 Main Street Bunyip has a long and interesting history.
