Remembering Bunyip’s Main Street memoriesMitchell’s Drapery (now Bunyip Bakery at 19 Main Street Bunyip)
Behind the long wooden counter, Fred and Doris stood , the Mitchell’s as they were .
Mr Mitchell, neat in his grey suit and polished black shoes, would greet each customer with a quiet nod. His white hair, just slightly wavy, was always just so.Beside him,
Mrs Mitchell kept a watchful eye on the rolls of fabric, her greying hair pinned up, her hands never far from a pair of scissors.Always a warm smile welcomed all who came through the door.
From buttons to bolts of cloth, the Mitchell’s Drapery was greatYears later all this continuedDavid and Leonie had big black shoes to fill, they did this wellLeonie was there to help you find a dress, measure up some frabricand find that right button. The Drapery lived on for a few more years 🪡🧵Sadly, now gone , Kmart and Big W have taken over, where you can still buy a button and a thread but not the same way as the past.
Thank you Doris, Fred, David and Leonie 🥰
