Remembering Bunyip’s Mains streets History Mrs Cantlin
Along Main Street, Bunyip, between the Top Pub and Pound and Ure, sat a little shop.It was a fruit and veggie shop…but really, it was much more than that.
You could buy your apples and potatoes, but also milk, bread, cordial, and may other foods and goods.
Mrs Cantlin had soft whitish hair, and a welcoming smile. She wore an apron with pockets that held a pencil and a notepad, Her shop had a big glass window at the front. In that window sat rows of sloping trays, filled with fresh fruit and vegetables. oranges, green apples, and right at the front, the shiniest red apples you’d ever seen.As there were apple orchards around Bunyip, apples were always in great supply.every time someone walked in the shop a little bell would jingle.
As the years went by,the little shop along Main Street saw changes, as all places do.In later years, the names Townsend and Watson would carry it on,
But many still remembered Mrs Cantlin, standing by the door, apron on, smiling, with the finest apples in Bunyip.
Thank you Mrs Cantlin.
