Yay, it’s Friday! It’s time for our story.
Today’s story is about my memories from my time at Bunyip State School. You might like to know that in 1969 the Victorian Government changed the name from Bunyip State School to Bunyip Primary School.
So on we go. Today’s story is named…
Do You Remember?
Remember those days? You are welcome to add your memories in the comments.
Remember Bunyip State School No. 2229 at 1290 Nar Nar Goon–Longwarry Road. In my time it was just Garfield Road.
Remember those days, those favourite teachers, those favourite times.
Remember Grade Six, Frederick Kitchener Anderson, flying in the Battle of Britain. Also Grade Six, Mrs McGregor, a great teacher who rode her very cool red bike, the same type, Milton, as my mum’s postie bike.
Remember watching the moon landing in the passage on a little TV.
Remember John sharing his American raspberry liquorice.
Remember planting trees. Remember marching around the quadrangle and standing at the flagpole singing God Save the Queen. Remember the bubble gum or chewy gum stuck on the hot asphalt
Remember the little snake that snuck inside and hid in the tumbling mat.
Remember the school sports at Catani.
Remember the box of uniforms to share, taking home a musty navy blue skirt and yellow mustard T-shirt.
Remember the hedge with the words Bunyip State School trimmed into it.
Remember the milk, warm or very cold.
Remember Mr Mills, his guitar playing, but what scared us was the spooky story about an axe murderer. Yep… thanks, Mr Mills!
Remember at Christmas break defrosting the staff room fridge and receiving 20 cents, or maybe it was 50 cents. We were happy anyway.
Remember Miss Mowats whiskers.
Remember playing kissy chase. How could I forget chipping a tooth? Yep!Remember the smelly toilet block and the shelter sheds
Remember the big high bars and the log swing, the flips and the falls.
Remember the pine trees and the plantation.
Remember the School Commissioner arriving in his black car.Remember the school excursions, especially the one to Healesville sanctuary when my aunty from Adelaide came too Remember buying your lunch at Mrs Streeter’s. Sadly I thought not me. I rode my bike home for lunch and always knew if Blue Hills started on the radio I would be late getting back.
Yes, remember… there are so many memories, mostly great ones.
Now it’s your turn… what do you remember?Happy Friday everyone #lovealwayshenry♥️#storybydaffy📝#picbypatch
