Chapter One: HENRY THE BUNYIP
Once upon a time, A long time ago, there was a man named Henry. Henry McSwane Rodger from Scotland was a baker, a well respected chap and friend to many, especially Charles Pearson at the grain store; they were great mates. In more recent years, Henry the Bunyip was created in memory of Henry the Baker. And so it began. Henry the baker is known in the story as “The Baker”.Henry the Bunyip loved living at the bakery; the Baker was an early riser, working through the morning to bake bread and sweet treats. Henry's job was to deliver the bread, riding his blue bicycle to Charles' Grain Store. Charles, the storekeeper, adored fresh bread with strawberry jam from Rose Farm. Henry would always stop by and give Nell, the mother cat, a pat. Penelope the spider also lived at the bakery; high up in the ceiling, she could see everything happening below. The Baker's wife was knitting with a red ball of wool. Penelope loved the colour red; she had eight red boots. Maybe later she might like to take up knitting too. Ada and Jessie, the Baker's girls, adored the little kitten Mittens; they put a huge red bow around her neck. Penelope noticed Aldred the bakers son sipping his tea, always adding four teaspoons of sugar to his cup and stirring it four times clockwise and then four times anticlockwise. The bakery was busy, with people constantly coming into the shop.Henry the Bunyip loves going on adventures, visiting kindergartens, learning centres, and schools, where he enjoys hugs and sharing his two books.Every Tuesday and Wednesday, he meets with the Bunyip Social Hubarians for their weekly gatherings. Henry is a lucky fellow.Have you met Henry ? He sure would like to meet you.
