Today marks a very special milestone, as the commemorative plaque on Henry’s Seat was installed. The plaque honours Henry McSwane Rodger (1903–1926), Bunyip’s baker and the namesake of Henry the Bunyip. It recognises his contribution to our town and ensures that his story will continue to be shared for generations to come. The plaque measures 500 mm × 250 mm and has been crafted from stainless steel as a permanent tribute. It has been designed to stand the test of time and provide an opportunity for both locals and visitors to pause, reflect and learn a little of Bunyip’s history. It is my hope that kindergarten teachers, school groups, families and visitors will take the time to scan the QR code on the plaque. It links directly to the Henry the Bunyip website, where they can read the history of Henry McSwane Rodger and explore many other Bunyip history stories. By learning about the people, businesses and events that have shaped our town, I hope children and future generations will develop a greater appreciation of Bunyip’s rich heritage and the importance of preserving these stories for years to come. A very special thank you goes to Jack Searle of Cooma Trophy and Gift Centre, Vale Street, Cooma, for crafting this beautiful commemorative plaque. The company’s motto is, “Let us help you make something special.” Jack, you did exactly that. Your craftsmanship, attention to detail and care have created a lasting tribute to Henry McSwane Rodger that will be enjoyed by the people of Bunyip and its visitors for generations to come. Coinciding with National Book Lovers Day, it is a fitting opportunity to pause, read, reflect and share the story of Bunyip’s baker, together with the many other stories that celebrate Bunyip’s rich history.
