Henry Rodger, the Baker

Henry Rodger had lived in Scotland

one day, he and his brother decided to go to New Zealand, Frederick fell in love and stayed in NZ

Henry’s adventure continued

he boarded a big ship and sailed off into the unknown. The sea was blue, other days, the sea was black with huge waves that tossed the ship to and fro, day after day, the ship steamed onto the new land, one bright sunny day, Henry looked out to the land he saw just ahead

it was a port, and at last, he was in Australia;

 Prahran, here comes Henry Rodger, a new life to start, Henry ran a bakery in Prahran.  one day he met Hannah, Hannah was beautiful, and Henry knew she was the one,

it was not long till Henry asked Hannah to marry him, soon later they had three children when the younger one was about one year old, Henry had heard about the new towns popping up along the Gippsland railway line,

Bunyip sounded interesting, soon Henry and his family had moved into there cute little house on the Main Street, and so began the Bunyip Bakery, this was in 1903.

many years later, Bunyip had grown into a great town with businesses and many people, Henry's children went to the Bunyip school, and they grew up, having a good life, joining in all activities and clubs; their dad had taught them that community was important.

in 1926 Sadly Hannah passed away; Henry was sad; he didn’t want to bake bread anymore; other Bakers looked after the bakery, not long after  Henry hung up his apron and settled into a new quieter life, eventually remarrying, his youngest daughter lived nearby, Henry had many grandchildren, but life just wasn’t the same,

Henry passed away in 1937; he was at peace with his beloved Hannah. both are buried in the Bunyip Cemetery. History is there to be retold.  We never want to forget our history 📕 this one is about a proud Scottish Baker.
