Today we remember the Gippsland Hotel (Top Pub). Although today this pub looks forlorn and forgotten, it too has a rich history. Hopefully the pub is not lost and can one day have new life. Many, many years ago, the pub was connected to William Kraft. In 1897, he was licencee of the original Gippsland Hotel. He was married to Sarah Alice Finch, whose father, Lawrence Finch, was licencee of the original Railway Hotel. The Krafts are both resting in the Bunyip Cemetery. On to more recent memories… Names like Shallue, Hoppy, Wilson, Sutton and Bardon come to mind.
Each licencee has their own story, but today’s story is about the Bardons. Like many other female licencees of pubs,
Marg made her mark on the Top Pub. Tim, Marg, Glenn and staff all worked hard, making the Top Pub a great place to hang out , great meals, cold beer, music and friends.
One great memory was of the times Marg would deliver meals to us at the Community House. Where else would you have that service? A piping hot roast delivered, and the dirty dishes collected — those were great days. No such thing as Door Dash then… or maybe Marg invented that! There are so many memoriesI welcome yours too. #storybydaffy#lovelawayshenry#picbyai
