The Cousins
Annie , Daisy , Archie, and Fox loved spending time together. They were first cousins and enjoyed playing video games. On rainy days, they’d all gather in the treehouse on Edward Street. Annie , was the fastest at racing games. Daisy preferred puzzles that challenged her mind. Archie enjoyed building entirely new worlds, while Fox was the champion of any game, zipping through obstacles and tackling tricky challenges. One stormy afternoon, the wind howled, and the power flickered off, causing the video game to shut down. But instead of feeling upset, the girls said, “Let’s create our own game we will  transform the treehouse into an adventure.” They discovered gum nuts, eucalyptus leaves, and Banksia cones, which they turned into fairy dolls that sat on log seats. They picked yellow flowers and made wreaths for their hair. The boys built a fairy castle using bark and sticks. The small twigs were ideal for finishing the bridge over the moat. They found some feathers from Wendy the chicken and crafted a flag for the castle. They laid smooth pebbles down to create the pathways. The castle was finished. The cousins laughed and played until the rain stopped and the clouds cleared. And just like that, the best game ever wasn’t on a screen—it was the one they created with imagination, creativity, and the magic of the Australian bush
