A Cold Day by the Fire Outside, the wind howled, and the rain tapped on the windows of the old farmhouse. It was the perfect kind of day to stay inside, and that’s precisely what Loui and Loui did. Loui the cat, a fluffy ball of white and grey fur, was stretched luxuriously in front of the crackling wood heater. His paws kneaded the warm rug, his eyes half-closed in pure happiness. He was spoiled, and he knew it, fresh cream, soft cushions, and the best spot by the fire, all his for the taking.

Across the room,

Loui the terrier sat stiffly near his master’s chair, watching everything with suspicious little eyes.

His short hair bristled with each crack of the firewood. He didn’t trust many people, and he didn’t have time for silly things like cuddles or play.

His master was the only one he needed — and he made sure everyone knew it.

Now and then, the fluffy cat would flick his tail to tease the grumpy terrier. The terrier would grumble under his breath, not moving an inch. And yet, as the fire crackled and the farmhouse filled with warmth, the two Louis found a kind of quiet companionship. No need for words, no need for games, just the simple comfort of being together on a cold, rainy day.
