🌳It was way back in 1972 when our Grade 6 class at Bunyip Primary School was given a rather special job.planting trees!our grade 6 kids, some of us rather tall and lanky, were given the task of planting young trees in cardboard tubes along the front wire fence of Bunyip Primary School, on the Garfield sideSome grew beautifully, while others didn’t quite make it.Today, more than 50 years later, it’s hard to tell whether any of those original trees are still standing. Our tree planting was part of the Centenary of State Education celebrations. Our school principal, Mr F. K. Anderson, was there, along with our school captain, Peter Rankine, and vice-captain, Sandra Harrison.Fortunately, an old newspaper cutting and photographs have survived, Thanks to mums old album, capturing a little moment in the history of our beloved Bunyip Primary School.Today, this Friday History Memory Story holds a very special meaning.
Our beloved school friend Sandra Harrison sadly passed away this week.today we remember her with love and fond memories of our younger days. 🌹
Our deepest condolences go to the Harrison family at this sad time.
As the years have passed, we have also sadly said goodbye to other school friends. Although they are no longer with us, they will always remain part of our school memories.
One of Henry the Bunyip’s friends, Dave the Tree Man (David Thompson), was also a good friend of the Harrison family.Planting a tree is such a lovely way to honour someone special.A living memory, something that can grow, flourish and stand tall for generations.
Who would have thought that a simple school activity more than 50 years ago would bring back so many memories today?Do you remember planting trees at school? Or have you ever planted a tree in memory of someone you loved?
In loving memory of Sandra and our school friends who are no longer with us. 🌳❤️If you have special memories, your comments are welcome, they help enrich the story #lovealwayshenry#storybydaffy✍️
