Good morning, it’s Friday History Memories Day.
Today’s story starts with my Dad.
My Dad was a welder, a very good and talented welder at that. After going to night school in the late 1960s, he added certificates to his qualifications, This was wonderful for our family as soon he was asked to work for a brand new business, Bunyip Farm supplies at 8 Iona Rd as Modella Rd is known today, Derick and Barbara Birch set up this new business, Dad ( David Thompson) and Richard Gould were the main welders, while Barbara and a lovely lady Glenys King worked in the  office After school I would love visiting. inside the main building and you would find sparks flying from the welding bays, the hiss of the oxy torch, the smell of oil and steel weld, there was always farm machinery in needing repair,  one memory was the hand basin, it was always black from grease and oil, I remember once or twice cleaning it , and, of course, the  office, where the girls kept the business running, but my favourite memory  was  the lovely Glenys teaching me how to paint my finger nails and talk about other girly things, lovely memories. the kettle was always on , customers would enjoy a cuppa and a chat. Those were the days!
Today, the old workshop is still there but as Bunyip Engineering but whenever I drive past, I don’t just see a building. I still see Dad in his navy overalls, and remember the kindness of the people who worked there. It is another little piece of Bunyip’s history that deserves to be remembered.Happy Friday #storybydaffy📝#lovealwayshenry♥️#picbyai
